Connectivity Programme Connectivity Programme

Connectivity programme comprises telecommunication infrastructure projects that are implemented through Public Private Partnership model. They are subsidized by the USPF but implemented, owned and operated by Operators and Service Providers. They provide the platform on which the access projects thrive.

RUBI - Rural Broadband Initiative

Through the RUBI project, the USPF provides subsidies to operators for the deployment of network to support the establishment of core delivery mechanisms for broadband services in the rural/semi-urban areas of Nigeria.

The pilot wireless mobile broadband hotspots have been completed. This project is providing both wired and wireless internet at high speed in the rural areas at wholesale, and at the same time serving as catalyst for the uptake of other broadband-dependent projects in those locations such as e-library, e-health, e-government, etc.

UnICC - University InterCampus Connectivity

The UNICC is a support project to the National Universities Commissions' Nigerian Research and Education Network (NgREN) project, the primary purpose of which is to deliver broadband infrastructure and access to facilitate research and learning using state of the art technology.

The UnICC Project is therefore, designed to seamlessly connect the networks of the main campuses of selected universities to the networks of their corresponding medical colleges and teaching hospitals through the deployment of fibre optic cable and its associated equipment.

BTRAIN - Backbone Transmission Infrastructure

The Backbone Transmission Network (BTRAIN) Project is designed to facilitate the connection of the rural and semi urban areas to the National Transmission Backbone Infrastructure via fiber infrastructure.

The USPF implements this project through Public-Private-Partnership (PPP) with Implementers by offering subsidies determined through competition.

BTS - Base Transceiver Stations

This project involves the granting of subsidies to Network Operators for the deployment of Base Transceiver Stations (BTS) and other passive infrastructure in underserved and un-served communities which the market will not ordinarily reach.

The deployed infrastructure supports the extension of voice services to the beneficiary communities.
